SCOPE OF HOMOEOPATHY IN AUTISM WITH PREVENTION, MANAGEMENT & SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

Abstract: Autism spectrum disorder is a neurological condition that affects how people perceive and relate to one another, which can cause problems with social interaction and communication. Some children can develop ASD symptoms as early as their first year of life. Some people may not start to show symptoms until they are 24 months or older. Variations in the brain cause developmental disability known as autism spectrum disorder (ASD). ASD includes sensory impairment, speech communication, and hyperactivity/restlessness. Since there is no medical test for ASD, such as a blood test, it can be difficult to diagnose. However, with the help of a clinical psychologist, a neurologist, and a psychiatrist, doctors were able to determine that a kid had pediatric autism disorder.

Introduction: A neurological abnormality called autism spectrum disorder affects how a person perceives and interacts with others, which can lead to issues with social interaction and communication. Limited and recurring behavioral patterns are another feature of the illness(1).

ASD usually manifests before the age of three and can last the rest of a person's life, though symptoms occasionally become better with age. ASD symptoms can appear in some kids within the first year of life. Some ASD children develop new skills and reach developmental milestones up until the age of 18 to 24 months, at which point they cease doing so or lose the abilities they previously possessed(2).

Causes of Autism Spectrum Disorder:

1.     Genetics

2.     Environmental factors

3.     Complication during pregnancy

4.     Viral infections

5.     Medications(3)

Signs and Symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorder:

Developmental impairment known as an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is brought on by variations in the brain. People with ASD may struggle with confined or repetitive activities or interests, as well as social communication and engagement. It is crucial to remember that some individuals without ASD may also experience some of these symptoms. However, these traits can make life very difficult for those with ASD including hyperactivity/restlessness, sensory impairment, and speech communication(1).

  • does not babble by the age of 12 months or produce words by 16 months
  • does not respond when people talk to them but reacts to other sounds
  • does not make eye contact
  • lines up toys or objects excessively
  • does not play with others or play make-believe games(2)(4).

Diagnosing autism spectrum disorder:

ASD can be challenging to identify because there is no medical test, such as a blood test, for the condition. To determine a diagnosis, doctors consider the child's behavior and developmental history.

Together with a clinical psychologist, neurologist, and psychiatrist, doctors made the diagnosis of childhood autistic disorder.

ASD can occasionally be identified in children as young as 18 months. By the age of 2, a qualified professional's diagnosis can be trusted.

However, many kids don't get a definitive diagnosis until they're much older. Some patients don't receive a diagnosis until they are teenagers or adults. To ensure that children with ASD receive the assistance and support they require to realize their full potential, it is critical to diagnose them as soon as possible(1)(4).

Developmental screening:

All kids should undergo developmental and behavioral testing at these ages during routine well-child visits:

9 months

18 months

30 months

Additionally, the AAP advises that all children be especially evaluated for ASD at certain ages during routine well-child visits:

• 18 months

• 24 months

Research that compares a child to other kids his or her age forms the basis for screening questionnaires and checklists. Language, movement, and reasoning abilities, as well as behaviors and emotions, may be the subject of questions(2)(3).

Therapeutic Management:

The following list includes several non-addictive homeopathic drugs that could be used to treat autism:

1. Agaricus - This homeopathic treatment for autism is excellent for kids who may be cognitively and physically clumsy and display signs like aloofness, muttering, chatting, shouting, or singing but don't respond to calls or questions directly. For kids who experience uncontrollable jerks while awake, Agaricus is a particularly efficient homeopathic remedy.

2. Nux Vomica - One of the finest remedies for children with ASD who are agitated, anxious, impatient, or inclined to become angry.

3. Cuprum Metallicum - This remedy is incredibly effective when a youngster is being particularly obsessed, irate, rigid, tense, or violent toward their parents. Some of these youngsters may even behave maliciously, and most of them avoid contact or being approached.

4. Androctonus - A child who frequently shifts wildly between a steady, positive mood and a destructive mode might be calmed or evened out by the homeopathic medication Androctonus. Additionally, these kids show suspiciousness and a propensity to behave without thinking.

5. Helleborus- is a very efficient homeopathic treatment for autistic children who are slow and inactive and frequently appear to be depressed. Some of these kids might also have weak muscles(6)(7).

Prevention:

Typically, there are three types of mental health prevention. First, as a primary preventative that targets large populations and seeks to lower the incidence of an illness. Next, as a secondary measure to prevent the illness from spreading, target some at-risk groups (or its severity). Thirdly, as a tertiary preventative measure for subjects who are suggested to maintain functional adaptations, the person's wellbeing, and prevent relapses (8)

Primary autism prevention would entail making adjustments to its underlying causes before conception and throughout pregnancy to boost resilience and lower incidence (9).

To improve or maintain the level of adaption and the wellness of the autistic person, preventative methods are mostly at the secondary and tertiary levels. They will also stop secondary issues from developing, such as extremely disruptive behaviors, depression, transitional difficulties, etc. In general, all interventions during this age show an innate worth for prevention(10).

Conclusion:

ASD is a neurobiological disease that is influenced by environmental and genetic factors that have an impact on the developing brain. A full neuropsychological evaluation and referral to a specialist for a final diagnosis follow the developmental screening of the general pediatric population to identify at-risk children as the first step in clinical evaluation. A variety of symptoms experienced by children with autism are qualitatively altered by carefully chosen homeopathic treatment. To lessen a child's hyperactivity, impatience, aggressiveness, etc., it also aids in behavior adjustment. As a result, it contributes significantly to minimizing or eradicating autistic symptoms. Homeopathy scores higher than other medical treatments for autism because, in contrast to them, it works on the levels of miasm, susceptibility, and sensitivity, which are crucial to the development of autism as well as the occurrence and advancement of its many symptoms. We may thus conclude that homeopathy is a powerful tool to combat the autism epidemic and can put a smile on the faces of both parents and children who are afflicted with the condition.

Research Trends:

The CDC has financed SEED, a multi-year study, for several years. The study, which is presently the largest in the country, aims to find out what variables may increase a child's risk of ASD and other developmental impairments. We can better understand the causes of ASDs if we are aware of the risk factors that increase a person's likelihood of developing one.

The Centers for Autism and Developmental Disabilities Research and Epidemiology (CADDRE) network includes six SEED study sites and a data coordinating center.
